A whole Steam Engine and tender goes missing in the middle of the night . The mysterious disappearance in Conneaut / Geneva Swamp

If you have ever taken I-79 North to Erie Pa. before you get there you go over the famous Conneaut Swamp . also known as Geneva Swamp

The bridge actually floats over this section of interstate because trying to drive piles down into the swamp  to build a conventional bridge would not work  its muddy bottom keeps going and going . just like with one side of the Brooklyn Bridge in NY. in fact to anchor the floating bride pillars go down 200 ft

One of the more mysterious things to happen at this location is the fact a full size Bessemer and Lake Erie  Steam Engine and Tender  as well as tracks it was sitting on disappeared overnight into the swamp.in 1910

The engine was set on tracks overnight to help compact soil which had been placed around the tracks to help stabilize them which was a constant on going battle.

Presumably the train and tracks where sucked deep into the mud or the floating bridge sprang back up with out the locomotive  minus its tracks depending who is telling the story

One story goes the story was made up and railroad secretly  took engine during night  renumbered it as part of an insurance or tax scam  but that seems to not be credible story.

But the engine is still supposedly there some where deep in the swamp   along with lots of other equipment lost by those trying to conquer it. .

How deep does it really go no one knows.

How a connection between a lonely Reader in New Kensington Pa to the Philadelphia Experiment proves it was all just a story

Yes the well known story about the man who saw the USS Eldridge disappear from Philadelphia  and reappear during an electrical experiment in 1943  seems to be nothing more than one lonely mans imagination

It appears that in 1955 a lone guy Carl Allen who lived with his parents  and was a prolific reader, concocted the whole story

Carl had a strange habit of writing notes on margins and liners of books he read and making up story's lines.

https://infactvideo.com/episode/01/04/

He made up the Philadelphia story  while reading a UFO book tore out the pages and submitted them to author of  the UFO book who then submitted them to Naval Research Center to verify the story  and the story leaked out and the rest is History as they say.

Using the name Carlos Allende  he claims to have witnessed the event from the ship SS Andrew Furuseth

Only problem both ships where not there at time the event played out and there are no credible eye witnesses to come forward and those who have have been debunked. In fact sailors who would have been on the ship at the time have been questioned and say it never happened.

After all these years as we have lost the majority of WWII veterans many would have witnessed it and some one should have come forward and no one has and you cant hide something like that. Many veterans as they near end of their lives start telling what they did no one has in this case. There are no records of mass injury's etc either.

Carl Allen Committed suicide in 1959 and proof of his forgery's came out in 1980.

But there are those who believe Einstein and Tesla where involved and it really happened well if it did it was not Philadelphia and not the the Eldridge.

The legend of the Giant catfish that swallowed a Diver in the Ohio river

Now I have seen some big fish in our local rivers and I know divers who are afraid to go around certain intakes and out takes along the rivers because fish can grow to very large sizes. But not bigger than a car.The largest fish pulled from the Ohio in WV. was a 70 pound Flat head catfish

But a legend has persisted that a giant catfish devoured a diver at a set of lock and dams along the Ohio river

The story goes as follows but there are different versions .

A man driving his car in 1950s at a newly completed  Ohio River  lock and dam looses control and drives into the river  and drowns before emergency divers can get to him.

The  submerged car blocks the locks  water intake to raise and lower the lock so 2 divers go down to remove it and persons body .  They find the car open door to remove the drivers body  and are shadowed by the fish  who is bigger than a car who attacks the one diver as the other takes off for the surface he surfaces and is rescued just in time as the attacked drivers legs  surface then the fish who swallows them and goes back under the waves all witnessed by nearby observers waiting to see the car removed.

First off such a thing happening would be in newspaper some where with so many witnesses and no such article exists and you can not get that close to any of the locks and dams they have fencing and barriers.

So it apparently is just another Urban legend some one made up about the fish which do grow large around intakes where they feed on nutrients. My driver friend takes a fish billy down with him when they get that big they are usually pretty slow and you just bump them out of the way.

The Mystery behind leaving a piece of old construction equipment behind at an old Coal strip Mine

Have you ever gone along a Pa.  back country Road perhaps past some old Strip Mining Land  and you see just a single old bulldozer or Grader  just sitting there abandoned but looks like its ready to go to work.

Like you see in the picture below

Well it was left behind by Mine Owners deliberately with the belief that as long as one piece of equipment  remains on the property they still have control of property and State of Pa. DER  can not force them to forfeit a Coal Reclamation Bond which can cost millions to post.

Which guarantees the mine property will be cleaned up.

One of the most famous of these is sitting along Pa 51  Near Uniontown Which unfortunately was destroyed and is tied up in a lawsuit.between new and old property owners

Hopefully some one will restore it but belief leaving a piece of equipment proves property ownership to prevent forfeiting a  reclamation Bond  doe not when its time to go to court after a mine owner. But the practice which may of had some truth back in 50s  still goes on.
