This Fire Dept hall was once a Hotel with a Notorious Past

 As you go down US 199 towards Uniontown you pass thru Connellsville and the road splits and in the section that splits sits the Morrel Volunteer Fire Dept. 

It moved to its newest location several years ago at 1232 University Drive  Dunbar Pa  after the roof collapsed at its former location

Now most people remember it being a former Victory  Ford Car Dealership

But if you take a close look at the building you can see it was something else

To the rear of the station sits part of a yellow brick structure

This yellow brick building is what is left of what was once a hotel I believe its name was The Starlite Hotel  and it had a Notorious Past 

Seems the mob ran high stakes card games in the hotel and several gamblers who won big jackpots never got to spend it having disappeared .

some day  I hope to get more info on the hotel but google has produced little.

Conspiracy theorists at it again after bridge fell into ravine in Pittsburgh during presidents visit

Its been a year since  the collapse of the Fern Hollow Bridge in Frick Park and rumors are still floating around on internet that the bridge did not fall from just lack of maintenance and negligence  but that it was deliberately made to collapse to push President Biden's highway and infrastructure agenda. who came to Pittsburgh the morning of the collapse .

OK so lets look at some interesting things these conspiracy folks are saying.

The Fern Hollow bridge was chosen to be vandalized  because it was one of the shortest and lowest 

bridges among the hundreds of bridges in Pittsburgh and was not over a river or large creek.So when it went down there was a greater chance of low to no loss of life and would get the point across.

While this could be a workable conspiracy   . Investigations have shown the total and complete negligence of failing to do proper preventive maintenance caused it and its a total coincidence the president was in town that day. 

Local Attorneys have been having a very hard time getting records from the city of Pittsburgh and have had to go to court to get them.

Plus a recently released reports dozens of bridges not being properly maintained.

 But despite the evidence of no fowl play there are those who insist there was.  

In some case the way our world is one can wonder but in this case it is very clear negligence not foul play was involved .

 

Mysterious Gigantic Earth Shaking Booms and Explosions . WhatsCausing them? and Why?

 All over SW Pa and Northern WV and Eastern Ohio people have been reporting loud earth shattering booms which cover several community's at a time . while some  write it off as kids playing with powerful fireworks or good ole boys shooting at Tannerite targets its too easy to just say that is the cause .

One loud boom and shake was heard from Mercer county Pa all the way down to parts of Kentucky  on December 31st 2023  and January 1st 2024

I have been helping Stan Gordon the UFO guy in Westmoreland County with tracking these booms 

and while a couple of them have been attributed to Minor Earthquake , Meteorites or Snow Quakes during extreme cold weather it does not explain them all

 They are increasing in size and strength  and how often they are happening 

There has been plenty of speculation from Underground Fracking  fluid Injection wells  and Fracking activity  to Underground Coal Mines collapsing to even the bizarre that the government has secret underground tunneling machines hey are using under the area  to build a secret tunnel network for god knows what.

It usually starts out with a Facebook post like this that was on Mountain News Group

 Anyone know what these earth shaking explosions are near Markleysburg?  Seems a lot more powerful than the usual rednecks with their quarter sticks of dynamite.

 Soon as its posting dozens of people start reporting all over hearing the explosion and if their homes rattled from it. Now there are plenty of jokers saying they farted etc.  but its is becoming very concerning just what the hell is going on and what is causing them.  This also goes along with strange sounds of horns being heard in the skies as well.

Some say its the end times . There has got to be a logical scientific explanation but for now it is a mystery

 

The Ghost Town of Cochranton Promises not kept by Allegheny County Officials

 If you ride down Pa. 837 thru City of  Duquesne  you will encounter a wide open valley with just the Macedonia Baptist Church  as lone occupant.

You can clearly tell something was there Maybe part of the old US Steel works ? but this was not the case this was a little neighborhood known as Cochranton 

It had a small old fashioned wooden grocery store ran by an older semi retired Black Couple where iI would stop in to buy a candy bar and Ice Tea  while installing the fire and security system on Macedonia Church new Addition . and an Old Arco Gas station which was being used as a repair garage.

 One day while leaving after working on the church I heard a cry for help  while sitting at intersection waiting to get out. coming from the old gas station . I looked over and a elderly Crippled man had accidentally caught his hand in the door of his old beat up pickup and could not free himself. I immediately ran over and was able to get him free. despite and injury to his hand he refused me getting him medical care and said he would take care of it himself.

There where  also several rows of  wooden homes  many abandoned but others well kept. 

When the mills closed it hit this neighborhood hard .

So the Allegheny County Redevelopment Authority  bought out the property owners 

They had this big plan which part of which you can see in the office hall way of Macedonia church 

a gym was to be added to the church and new housing and business where the old neighborhood stood. 

Instead it has sat empty since late 90s. promises forgotten and people chased out of their homes which could have been saved.  But that's Pittsburgh and Allegheny County Redevelopment  Authority's for you when you here Redevelopment what they really mean is Negro Removal . They have done it over and over again sometimes they build things but never to scale promised and those displaced Too Bad.

Strange Chimmney which sits along I 79 in Collier Twp, all by itself

 If you ever drove down interstate I-79 on South in Collier Twp. Pa 

You will find a large brick chimney just sitting there by  itself which sits in the middle of a swamp  and it has an an interesting tale to tell.

 

Back in late 70s  this was the site of Woodville State Mental Hospital  which was one of several State Mental Hospitals  in South Western Pa which included Mayview ,Torrence and Dixmont .

Many of the homeless people you see on the streets would have been treated and resided in these places where they got treatment and had a job if they wanted one on these almost totally self sufficient sites including power they made on site from coal which was mined and food from their  farms they raised .

Over the years  they became modernized and many of the jobs no longer existed because the state would have had to pay minimum wage so the farms disapared as well.

With modern medicines patients could move to safer halfway homes and or live on their own .

but this is why we have a homeless problem many will not take their medications and f=refer to live on the streets and not conform to society

But by 1991 the facility became obsolete  overcrowded and expensive to run and it was shut down 

Part of it burned down by arson and by 1995 it was all gone except 2 Things the Cemetery of unmarked Graves  of former residents .and a lone chimney stack which was for the power house which provide heat and hot water .

You can still see part of the footings of the foundation but nature and Pendot creating a bigger wetlands  have taken over  where the chimney is located. 

But why was it left behind ?  there is no history marker and 90% of people who ride by have no idea Woodville ever existed .

Well there where a couple issues which made it almost impossible to level it with out great expense.

First you have the High Tension DLC company Power lines which are close by and could be hit when chimney was leveled the other problem asbestos.that's lining many of these old chimneys that's why you will often find them sitting by them selves and the same questions what purpose did it serve .

So now you know the story that's rather sad.  A State Institution which could have been properly managed and updated and modernized  and still be in use today helping the mentally ill. 

But instead we see desperate homeless on street mass shootings and violent crime because some commie liberals thought it was batter to let the mentally ill treat themselves.
