A UFO observed sitting over the Highland Park Reservoir in Pittsburgh in 1970's over 30 people claim they saw it

Pennsylvania seems to be a hot bed for Bigfoot and UFO sightings

One of the supposed sightings happened right here in the city at Pittsburgh's Highland Park Reservoir  in the Eastern part of the city
March 1st 1978

Now I have seen plenty of strange goings on in the sky at night most of which are easily explainable
but in this case the size of the object they say was over the reservoir has to make you wonder.
In the article they claim it was bigger than reservoir  itself  and over 30 people claim to have eventually seen it   or the fast moving lights thru the sky an hour earlier even at 10PM at night there are still many people out and all the cars coming over the near by Highland Park Bridge should have also seen it so you would think there would have been more reports.
So what was it? Hard to tell and in the mean time you think local airport radar would have picked it up but there where no reports in news it did.

So was it some kind of secret spy craft from a government agency  ? Well thats always possible after seeing the stealth fighter for the first time at Beaver County Air Show I can see why people thought it was a UFO  creep-ed me out first time I saw it.

But for now it remains a mystery which some day will have an answer we can only hope.

In the mean time check out Stan Gordon's  web site he is from Westmoreland county and has been collecting UFO and other strange anomaly reports for many years.

By the way next December will be the 50th anniversary of the Kecksburg Incident.

US 30 in Chester W.Va an interesting section of road with its Club 30 and Pittsburgh Crime Family Connections.

I often spent  time riding US 30 The Lincoln Highway  over to Akron Ohio to meet a friend and there is a small strip of the W.Va. panhandle you pass thru called Chester W.Va which has a very interesting connection to a Pittsburgh  Crime Family .
One of the many infamous clubs along this road was the Club "30"

I was too young to enter it and it was long gone by time I was driving age . But you hear plenty of story's (wink wink ) about why these clubs where all along this stretch of road and what was really going on.

Well to start with at the time the drinking age was 21 in Pa. and 18 in W.Va. so if you where young and wanted to drink legally W.Va. was the place to go . How ever if you wanted a little action the Club 30  was where you could gamble and where the local sheriff looked the other way.

The gambling was controlled by the Larocca Crime Family  a branch of the Lacostra Nostra as was gambling in Nearby Weirton W.Va and Stubenville Ohio which are located along US 22

My father and father in law have memories of those days My wife is from Steubenville area and my dad would often drive young guys from Pittsburgh to Steubenville  or club 30 looking for a nights entertainment and my father in law often talked about the bookies etc along water street in Steubenville when he was a young man he would pass on his way to work as a chemist .
Of course by time My wife and I grew up this whole era of clubs and illegal gambling was all but over . Between the FBI raiding them and politics changing and a national age of 21 to drink legally
It pretty well doomed the operations but story's of illegal activity's going on persist. and  there was just a big illegal gambling raid in Steubenville.

But lets face it here in the tri-state many people like to gamble. Why do you think the mob set up shop here in the first place.   We now have legal casinos  etc. but its still the thrill of a Football Pool or playing the number  or betting on football game with a bookie .
I choose not to gamble  and I am not here to judge those who choose to what you do in your private life is your business, and thats the way it was with the clubs and bookies etc. The Larocca Crime Family always liked to run a clean game and keep a low profile.
It was not till Mr. Larocca passed away  and the gang got involved in Drugs  that it caught the attention of the FBI and feds in general.Which doomed the gang and its large bookmaking days but rumors persist it still goes on in Washington County by a couple of the very old made men who are left from the gangs heyday. The former site of club 30 now sits in ruins. While other clubs still operate under new names and owners but much smaller  operations than days past.

UPDATE:

In 2022 The old club building and bosses house where torn down and property leveled when US 30 was realigned  near Pa and WV line

A Fire Marshals comments to news crew at fatal fire brings back bad memories of what happened at a clients apartment building. A look at Hoarding

A recent news article and fatal fire here in Penn Hills brought chilling words from the Fire Marshal Chuck Miller of the growing problem of people Hoarding

I will never forget getting the call from my customer on the  chilly morning of  March 16th, 2001  I got a call from my customer Brian Barcic his Fieldbrook Apartment building was on fire.
as we stood out back as Mt Lebanon firefighters put out the fire and secured the scene on the 2nd floor . It was then that we started seeing firefighters throwing pile after pile after pile of newspapers and magazines out of the 2nd floor apartment window  which had caught fire

The problem the women was a hoarder and had the apartment filled with newspapers to 4 ft high with only place to sit down was small place in kitchen and bathroom. Even thou alarms activated and she tried to escape her junk filled apartment and Mt Lebanon Firefighters  and medics did there best to save her life  She would pass away from smoke damage to her lungs. Brian felt bad but the way tenant privacy rules are written he had no power to just go in and inspect a unit. He now has it in his lease that apartments are to be inspected annually to try and head something like this off at the past and Mt Lebanon also put into effect new rules to try and prevent this from happening again.
But there are those who say leave them alone and mind your own business let them live like they want to.

Yes hoarding is becoming a major problem and only getting worse I saw it all the time when I served as a firefighter. and it is these cluttered junked up homes  and apartments which are becoming fire traps, and frequently become death traps when a fire does start as owners and tenants can not escape.

One of the worst cases of hoarding  involved a set of brothers in New York City who ended up dying in the death trap they created  .

I have a neighbor whose brother lives down the street and his home is a fire trap the parents are dead and he lives by himself in a pig sty ,as you can see in the pictures above .
Often mental health issues come into play and those who hoard often become hermits who disapear from society and simply want left alone.
I have spent many hours cleaning up these types of places after the owners have passed and its disgusting and you must take hazmat precautions.
How ccan any one live like this ? who knows .What can you do if you suspect hoarding? not much you can contact Code Enforcement Officials.who can make them clean up and if they are seniors local area on aging office or similar senior advocate who may be able to help.
But unless agency's are willing to get involved or until the time the person is considered a harm to them selves or the community not much can be done. You will just keep hearing more and more about these cases. The  earlier you can find out a relative or friend is doing it the easier it is to get the help nd treatment.
Also remember there is a difference between cluttered and people being pack rats . while there homes may not be the most orderly or best house keepers  they are not obstructing with items to point you can not get thru rooms and hallways.
